Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge

On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China, Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge was open to traffic. Located between Xishan Mountain and Shiwei Village of Jingjiang city, the bridge connects the Nanjing-Nantong Expressway in the north with Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway in the south. Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge is the key project of National Highway Construction Program involving two major lines, namely, the line between Tongjiang in Heilongjiang Province and Shanya in Hainan Province and Beijing-Shanghai line. The bridge facilitates the communications between the northern and southern part of Jiangsu Province.

As the first ever built suspension bridge in China, Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge measures a length of 3071 meters, with a span of 1385 meters. The bridge is made up of bridge pier, bridge turret, suspension fabrication and steel bridge deck. Its wind resistance coefficient reaches 1.2. Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge is equipped with advanced auxiliaries and management facilities, with a total investment of RMB 3.374 billion.

Heads of state and government Jiang Zemin, Li Peng and Zhu Rongji attached great importance to the construction of Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge.

In October, 2002, Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge won our first Jukin Figo gold prize offered by International Bridge Convention held in Pittsburgh.
