Traditional Blocks

Traditional blocks are important parts of Jiangyin city. At present, there are two well preserved traditional blocks residing respectively in the northern and southern parts of Jiangyin city, namely, North Street Historical and Cultural Block and South Gate Zhongyi Historical and Cultural Block. The old traditional blocks are perfectly fitted into the layout of modern Jiangyin city.

North Street Historical and Cultural Block

North Street Historical and Cultural Block was once the commercial center in the northern part of Jiangyin city. It begins from Tongxingli in the east, ends at Houjie Street in the west, and starts from Junshanxiang in the north. The block stands as an indispensable part of old Jiangyin city.

North Street Historical and Cultural Block has a length of 300 meters and a width of 6 meters. The buildings along the street maintain the former shapes typical of Jiangnan style. Brick and wood are the main constructing material of these courtyard compounds.

Historical sites such as Mausoleum of Ruler Huangxie in Warring States Period, Songfeng Pavilion in Song Dynasty and Temple of Guan Yu in Qing Dynasty are well maintained and preserved in the North Street Historical and Cultural Block.

South Gate Zhongyi Historical and Cultural Block

South Gate Zhongyi Historical and Cultural Block extends to south City Ring Road in the north, expands to Fangjianong in the south and lasts to Hedong street in the east. Dongzhuan River goes cross the east part of this block. As an indispensable part of Jiangyin city, this historical and cultural block locates at the southern part of the city.
